For an Island measuring nine miles by five Jersey offers visiting golfers a rich selection of courses. The two 18-hole championship courses La Moye and the Royal Jersey Golf Club, require proof of handicap but keen golfers who do not belong to a club are not left out, they can play at four other venues - Jersey Recreation Grounds, Les Mielles Golf and Country Club, Les Ormes Golf and Leisure Club and Wheatlands Golf Club. Jersey has an impressive golf pedigree. Ted Ray and Harry Vardon, who won the British Open six times, were born and learned their golf in the Island. Jersey has also produced other well known players like Aubrey and Percy Boomer. Ian Woosnam now lives in the Island.
